FAQ

Straight answers to common questions

About fees, timing and what working with a solo lawyer is like. If yours isn't here, ask at the consultation.

What does the first meeting cost?

A one-hour consultation has a set fee, quoted when you book. If you hire me within 30 days, it is credited to your flat fee.

Why flat fees?

Because people going through a divorce shouldn't have to ration phone calls. You know the cost up front, and so do I.

Are court costs included?

No. Filing fees, service and any appraisals are paid to others. The fees page lists them.

Will I talk to you or to staff?

To me. I'm a solo practice, and I handle every case myself, start to finish.

How fast do you answer?

Within one business day, by phone or email. And every two weeks you get an update even when nothing has moved.

Can everything happen by video?

Most of it. Meetings and mediation can be on video, and many courts allow remote appearances for some hearings.

Do I have to go to court?

For an uncontested divorce, usually only to a short final hearing, and sometimes not at all. I'll be there with you.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

Whatever you have: recent pay stubs, a tax return, account statements and your children's current schedule. Missing papers are fine.

Can you represent both of us?

No. In a divorce or custody case I represent one person. As a mediator I represent neither of you.

Not on the list? Ask me.

Ask it at a one-hour consultation, and leave with a written price.
